Matthew 6:19-8:3
We are in the middle of the Sermon on the Mount. All these
lessons on faith come after the Beatitudes. There is so much here! Over the
next few days we will learn where to keep our treasure, not to worry and don’t
judge others. That is so much easier said than done! But, wait…there’s more!
Jesus tells us to ask, seek and knock and it will be given to us. That sounds
great; God will provide if I only ask. That sums up faith right there.
Next comes the hard stuff. Not everyone who believes in Him
will enter heaven. Wait a minute! I thought all I had to do was believe Jesus
is the Messiah, God’s anointed one. Now He tells me that using His name isn’t
enough. I’m doomed! Jesus then tells us that we must put into practice His
words if we are to be wise. It all comes back to faith.
Then we will read about a healing because the man with
leprosy had so much faith, he asked, sought and knocked and it was given to
him. Yet, Jesus tells him not to tell anyone. How do you keep a secret like
that? I wonder if he was able to obey Jesus. Did he trust that Jesus had a
plan?
Faith is believing in Jesus AND acting on His teachings. How
do you act on Jesus’ words? Does your faith allow you to trust that He has a
plan?
